Jun. 23rd, 2005 03:15 pmwe had our car seat fitted today, it is big and cushy and cost $420 (thank goodness i didn't actually have to pay for it, bless dad's absent father guilt!)
i started a tentstitch project last night at mum's, and it is half finished. it's very boring and only uses red and white, but i need to practise before i embark on a full-on elizabethan sweetpouch, which will be a might trickier. tonight i think i will also try to learn detatched buttonhole stitch and plaited braid stitch, but they look complicated so i might leave them until i feel a bit more up to it. have finished making a pair of cross-stitched pincushions for some friends of mine (and am now deeply over cross-stitch!)
it's my sister's birthday this weekend (she's twenty three and having a crisis), and i'm making her two cakes, but she won't call me to organise them, so i might just make what i feel like making (heh). unless she calls me tonight, one cake will be white chocolate mud cake with pale pink icing and pink and white striped chocolate curls (because i want to try making them and need an excuse), and the other might be lots of tiny rosebud cupcakes made with my extraordinarily beautiful and fabulous nordic ware cake tin, with some chocolate leaves to decorate...
i have run out of books to read since finishing china mieville's 'the scar', which was bloody good, and have been re-reading old books instead ('vanity fair', 'the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy', simon schama's 'a history of britain', and 'journey to the centre of the earth'). i need to go to ellison hawker and get some new one's off hold, lest i be forced to read ef benson's 'lucia victrix' again (may need to buy new editions as the cover is about to fall off the copy i have).
