hmm...two months since my last update. some things have happened. i keep volunteering for more shifts at work, so my pay for the last few weeks has been pretty good. had my probation assessment, after which my boss paused, then asked me what i was doing working in the kitchen. she seems to think i should be in admin, and doing a management diploma (for which the government will, apparently, pay). so, yay, i think.
i have cut out the hypothetical houppelande (big medieval dress involving about an acre of fabric), and have begun sewing it together. owing to pressure from certain quarters (and my apalling sewing-machine hoodoo, which has seen me wreck five machines now), i am handsewing the whole thing. with silk thread, no less. the shell is blue damask (nicer than the stuff i used for the rennaissance dress, though), the lining is dark red dupion silk (eek! $225!), and the underdress will be white linen possibly embroidered with gold. and i'm making a hat and shoes and a new belt to go with it. it will be the most specky (or if not the most specky, at least the most voluminous) garb in ynys fawr. and there is more in the planning stages, kirtles and cloaks and viking apron dresses. and this is turing into a garb diary. sorry.
arabella moved out of her cot and into a big bed on monday night. i put sparkly mermaid sheets on, and she went to bed and slept for 13 hours without a single escape attempt! yay! yet another instance of my daughter's near unfailing awesomeness! probably ian would disagree, since he thoroughly disapproves of her.
anyway, i've blithered on for quite long enough now.

Date: 2007-08-29 08:29 am (UTC)1) I'm very glad you've not perished in Glenorchy and are in fact alive :D
2)Yay for work.
3)This outfit is going to look stunning, but YOU ARE MAD. Then again, silk fabric merits silk thread, and (probably) the painstaking sewing of several kilometers worth of seams by hand D:
4)Your girl seems to be growing like a (beautiful) weed, (Belated congratulations on her 2nd birthday!) and Ian has no business disapproving :P
5)We would all like to shake arse and drink with you at a Coven sometime soon. Failing that, I shall be having a redundancy party in about five weeks, and you should come, I will ring you and hassle you.

Date: 2007-09-09 06:39 am (UTC)I've had the opportunity to observe your infant in her natural state. The father had put on some abomination of modern animation - "The Little Mermaid" I believe - and Arabella was sitting there delivering a running commentary on the events as they insipidly transpired, right up until the point where the tantalisingly jail-bait half-fish sells her "voice" (or "soul" as non-Disney employees remember the story) for a wonky set of pins. It was at this point Arabella said, and I quote:
"Bloody Idiot."
True story.
