I just bought 2kg of locally grown, fresh, new season's golden delicious apples and ate one in the car on the way home.  They filled the whole car with the clean, sweet scent of apples, and tasted so beautiful that I almost wept.  They are perfect apples, the kind that feature in myths and fairy stories, and it's no wonder that Eve and Snow White were so easy to tempt, or that Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena used all their wiles to win one.  I think I'll have another one...

I have managed to achieve other things besides the apple purchase; I have bought fertiliser, new thyme and rosemary for the herb garden, and a bay tree (and I have decided that I'd like to add a pomegranate to the orchard when we plant it).  So this afternoon the small girl and I will be donning grungy old clothes and digging in the dirt!  Hurrah!

They are so tasty it makes you want to sit down somewhere quiet in order to allow the moment to linger...and they're just lying around in a crate at the local fruit and veg shop for $3 per kilo!
She loves her castle, by the way (not sure how ther Princesses feel about being incarcerated, though).

We just got a couple of kilos of new seasons apples from someone at Aaron's work ,and they taste and smell so good you do want to cry a bit. Especially after all the cold-store-from-the-previous-season crap that got hocked so much last year. Yummy.

I just remembered I have a tonne of bay leaves lying around if you're interested...nice big ones and organic.

Ta, but when we amalgamated the kitchens we discovered many, many bags of bayleaves (there is now a large jar in the spice cupboard). What is even less explicable is the hug jar of whole cloves...why wouls anyone buy that many? I have vague memories of cloved orange pomanders, perhaps that's it...

You express the apple-thing so well--I await the ripening of the two Golden Delicious on my triple-grafted tree.

Dirty shrubberies! *So* cool! : )
